A party of potential purchasers for the ‘surplus’ Douglas horse cars which are due to be auctioned off on Saturday 27th August, were escorted around Strathallan Depot today (16th August), to allow viewing of the lots concerned.

The MERS can report that amongst the potential purchasers were representatives from the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, who have shown an interest in bidding for Douglas Horse Car 37. This will involve (if permission is granted from the authorities), its removal from the Island and significant butchering of the running gear of the 1896 built Milnes car, to re-gauge it if it is to run on the railway’s 2ft 6” metals. If permitted, this charming and valuable piece of Manx Heritage will be lost to us forever.

The following photographs were taken during today's viewing.
