The costly promenade fiasco entered a new phase as the latest planning application is withdrawn.

A letter to over 130 individuals and organisations who submitted objections to the scheme - which would have seen the abandonment of the iconic horse tramway along the section of promenade affected - states:

"25th July 2016

PA No: 16/00379/B

Proposal: Re-construction of the highway and footpaths and creation of a low speed streetscape on and along Loch and Harris Promenades, and creation of an area to provide seating, sculpture, lighting, display screens, bike storage areas, bus shelter and landscaping within Harris Promenade

Address: Douglas Promenade From Sea Terminal, Loch Promenade and Harris Promenade Douglas Isle Of Man

Applicant: Department Of Infrastructure

I write to acknowledge that the above application has now been withdrawn."
